about already, empathy
Thanks very much for spending some time at already, empathy. This blog has been a long time building, and until recently was titled with those who: a journal of empathy. I wrote an early post on my longstanding interest in the theme of empathy, and its frequent absence in our personal and community experience. I certainly don't mean to abandon that theme, but wanted to incorporate more of an intentional awareness of wrestling with empathy and generally living in the already, not yet of God's kingdom. Hence the new name, which I try to explain a bit more here.
As for personal information, I live in southeastern Wisconsin with my wife Cheryl and our toddler son Jadon, and three adopted cats. I'm a graduate of Moody Bible Institute (BA '01, biblical studies), and most recently of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (MA '08, Christian studies). I administrate not one sparrow, a Christian voice for animals, which launched just after completing my seminary capstone project on the same subject, and also work part-time at our church as a custodian. I also wrote a personal exploration of the already, not yet after college, a delicate fade, and briefly kept a few other blogs including one called empathy and ethics.
